What You'll Cover

1

Plant Selection & Care

First few weeks focus on understanding different species. You'll learn which plants thrive in various interior conditions and how to maintain them properly. We cover watering schedules, light requirements, and common problems.

2

Design Principles

Mid-program, we get into arrangement theory. Balance, proportion, color coordination. This is where you start developing your own style instead of just copying examples. Lots of practice sessions here.

3

Client Projects

Final phase involves real work. You'll design for actual spaces with specific requirements and constraints. Some students work on residential projects, others tackle office environments. Each situation teaches you something different.

4

Business Basics

Last month covers practical business considerations. Pricing your work, communicating with clients, sourcing supplies. Not everyone wants to freelance, but knowing these fundamentals helps regardless of your path.

Your Instructors

Both of us have been working in this field for years. We've made plenty of mistakes along the way, which means we know what actually trips people up when they're learning.

Instructor Tavish Ormond

Tavish Ormond

Foundation Course Lead

Spent eight years working with residential clients before moving into teaching. He's patient with beginners and good at breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps. Worked on projects ranging from small apartments to large commercial lobbies.

Instructor Sable Thatcher

Sable Thatcher

Advanced Program Lead

Specializes in seasonal design and large-scale installations. She pushes students harder than Tavish does, which works well for the advanced group. Has consulted for hotels and corporate offices throughout the region since 2017.

Guest instructor Zephyr Calloway

Zephyr Calloway

Guest Workshop Leader

Runs occasional weekend workshops on specialized topics. His background is in sustainable sourcing and working with local growers. Brings a different perspective that complements the regular curriculum nicely.

Technical advisor Maren Quillan

Maren Quillan

Technical Advisor

Handles the plant care and maintenance segments. She's the person to ask when something's dying and you don't know why. Her expertise in troubleshooting has saved countless arrangements over the years.

Enrollment Opens June 2025

We're accepting applications starting mid-June for autumn programs. Class sizes stay small so everyone gets individual attention. Reach out if you have questions about which program fits your situation, or if you want to discuss the time commitment involved.
